THE PNW EDUCATOR

A blog by a BC teacher navigating todays digital world

About Me

Hello everyone! My name is Chelsea Howells and I am an elementary school teacher on Vancouver Island. I’m 27 years old and I graduated with my B.eD from UVIC in 2016. I have been teaching grades 4/5 for the past five years. I am a generalist, which means I teach everything from Math to P.E (with the exception of French)! I am currently upgrading to a Category 5 in order to get my Masters.

I love hiking and getting outside. There’s nothing better than going on one of many hikes here on the island and having that gratifying view at the end. I’m lucky enough that we are minutes from the ocean, a hike, or a short drive to my favourite watering hole: Cowichan Lake! You can find me spending my summers at the lake, playing in the water or having a fire outside. I am the youngest of 5 siblings but am blessed with two nieces and six nephews. It seems everywhere in my life I am surrounded by kids!

I am interested in Social Media, Personalized Learning and Learning design as I am seeing an increase in technology and the effects it has on school-aged children. I want to learn more about how I can foster a positive experience with social media and the varying types of technologies out there to support the students in my classroom. As we continue to enter a digital age in schools, I feel it’s important to stay equipped with the newest information out there. I look forward to learning alongside you.
